Beth Bradfish: Deep Green
November 14 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FOR CONTRABASS, PERCUSSION, PIANO AND ELECTRONICS
This piece is about growth – how a halo of gentle spring leaves becomes, by late summer, a full and deep green forest.
For me, spring began near South Pond Lincoln Park – where my home had been for forty years. I celebrated each day – each minute growth…savoring – a long good bye. I knew this was my last season in this refuge. I was letting go – not knowing where home would be.
July Fourth – another home appears in Southwest Michigan. I could see a familiar imprint: prairie grasses and singing insects. Yet different shores of Lake Michigan – forty years of sunrise in one home – unknown years of sunset ahead.
As I developed this composition my yard was a forest – lush green. Pines, tall trees, deer, birds and some ease – home.
While this piece is about feeling and hearing deep green. There is no green in the room.
Perhaps you will hear it or feel it. I hope so. You are encouraged to move around and explore the soft panels on the wall – you may be able to hear the sound with your hands and body. Pick up a Wii Remote and add to the soundscape. Or just sit and listen.
Fall 2018 Sponsored Artist Beth Bradfish:
I am endlessly fascinated by the sounds of life, and look to bring that joy and curiosity to my audience. My perceptions are influenced by synesthesia and a sensitivity to corporal vibrations of sound. I seek to light corners where people don’t always look or listen.
