Jonathan Hannau at Constellation
August 12 @ 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm
Jonathan Hannau is a Chicago-based composer and pianist interested in the surreal, abstract, and colorful possibilities of music. He actively embraces and explores the concepts of narrative, drama, and stark expression while pushing them down the rabbit hole of timbre. As a performer he tackles a variety of styles and ideas collaborating closely with composers to bring their works to life in his Rocking Chair Series. For this particular concert, Jonathan curated music that focused around the work of Chilean composer: José Miguel Arellano. Five thoughts on the Imaginary man is a substantial piano solo written in 2017 which explores the poetry of the Chilean poet Nicanor Parra. With this world premiere, Jonathan selected music that he felt shared close relationships with the piece, while still trying to keep the program eclectic and spontaneous. He is excited to be making his debut at Constellation with this project, and looks forward to discussing the music with everyone afterwards.
