FREQUENCY FESTIVAL PRESENTS
Jennifer Woodrum with Albatross Duo
Mabel Kwan performs selections from her recent release, Trois Hommages by Georg Friedrich Haas (New Focus Recordings).
Haas describes this early work as the nucleus for later pieces such as In Vain. With each homage, he pays tribute to three of his musical influences by translating their compositional language into quarter tones. Written for one performer playing two pianos simultaneously, with one piano tuned a quarter step lower over its entire range, the music is defiant, hypnotic, and otherworldly.
JENNIFER WOODRUM WITH ALBATROSS DUO
Clarinetist Jennifer Woodrum joins forces with the Albatross Duo–Adam Marks and Jennifer Beattie–in a program showcasing the rarely performed song cycle by Judith Lang Zaimont From the Great Land: Woman’s Songs. Also featuring works by Stacy Garrop and Rachel Peters, this program elevates the female voice with authenticity and balance in a program that explores the process of death through the lenses of mythology, imagination and poetry.
