Unsilent Night Chicago 2018
December 2, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
A luminous soundscape played by participants
on analog and digital electronic music players carried through neighborhood streets.
This year we are gathering in Rogers Park for a soundwalk of a different kind: Phil Kline’s Unsilent Night which has been performed in over 100 cities since 1992.
“Phil Kline’s public sound sculpture Unsilent Night is created when many individuals simultaneously play one of four tracks on cassette, CD, mp3, or mobile devices, and blast each through a roving swarm of boomboxes and speakers carried through city streets.”
We have cassettes to loan to anyone who wants to bring a cassette player/ boom box, and we encourage you to download the app or use Soundcloud on your own devices if you don’t have a boom box:
Participating is EASY and FUN and we’d love to see a huge family-friendly and friend-family procession through the Rogers Park neighborhood, sharing peaceful, affirming energy to all who live in 60626.
Sparkling clothes, lanterns and all manner of twinkling is encouraged.
We’ll stay on wheelchair friendly accessible paths.
Pets are not allowed; we love animals but want to be sure anyone who is unaccustomed or allergic feels comfortable joining us. Also-we know animals can respond to electronic sounds in a variety of unpredictable ways!
Loyola or Morse Redline stops or the #147 are good ways to get there. Street parking: check the signs for regulations or payment info.
