a•pe•ri•od•ic (40): The Music of Heather Frasch/Anne La Berge at Constellation
April 28 @ 8:30 pm - 11:30 pm
a•pe•ri•od•ic will give the US premiere of Heather Frasch’s new work for objects, boxes and shadows. With the composer in residence for the concert, Frasch will join the ensemble in an improvisation on her recently built kinetic sculptures. Frasch builds sonic sculptures exploring notions of fragility and stillness within an intermedia sonic arts practice. Influenced by the dis-embodiment of acousmatic music practices, she investigates the re-embodiment of sound and the intimacy between humans and their technological objects
Anne La Berge’s passion for the extremes in both composed and improvised music has led her to the fringes of storytelling and sound art as her sources of musical inspiration. Her performances bring together the elements on which her reputation is based: a ferocious and far-reaching virtuosity, a penchant for microtonal textures and melodies, and her unique array of percussive flute effects, all combined with interactive electronic processing and text.
Sam Pluta-Delay/Line (2016) for flute and electronics
Anne La Berge-Assail (2017-19) for narrator, flute, electronics and tablets
Yannis Kyriakides-Oneiricon (2014) for musicians and tablets
“La Berge is a precursor of some of the important things contemporary composition has now come to mean.”- The Wire
