Beautifulish // MEGA LAVERNE & SHIRLEY (巨拉夫恩和謝莉) // Three Hands Clapping
August 4 @ 8:30 pm - 11:30 pm
Frequency Series Presents
Katie Young and Sam Scranton make music together as Beautifulish. They fuse free improvisation with composed musical material. Tightly interwoven gestures smudge into expansive textures. Rainbows of noise produced through haptic and breathy friction create proximity and space, timbre and harmony, pitch and rhythm. Young and Scranton use electronics and amplification to augment their primary instruments; Young plays bassoon, Scranton, percussion. The result is an integrated sound world that exists as its own beautifulish thing.
MEGA LAVERNE & SHIRLEY (巨拉夫恩和謝莉)
MEGA LAVERNE & SHIRLEY (巨拉夫恩和謝莉) is a band birthed from the fictitious art scene known as big TEEN. big TEEN bands revel in aesthetics of distraction, multiplicity, and metatheatrics. MEGA LAVERNE & SHIRLEY (巨拉夫恩和謝莉) embrace this artistic framework with monolithic performances that incorporate synthesizers, MIDI, multilingual declamations, choreography informed by Chinese calligraphy, baked goods, and LED light worship. That is, MEGA LAVERNE & SHIRLEY (巨拉夫恩和謝莉) overwhelm their audience in the hopes of bringing them into a new kind of focus; a transcendence through multitasking and confusion. It’s like witnessing a monumental event happen in two parallel universes simultaneously, or watching an episode of Laverne & Shirley in two languages.
Three Hands Clapping
Three Hands Clapping is a collaborative trio consisting of Ben Zucker, Rebecca McDaniel, and Henry Breneman Stewart—combining an experimental approach to forms and sounds with percussive technique and nuance, they create immersive coexistences of texture and groove.
