Rush Hour Concerts: Internal Connections
July 9 @ 5:15 pm - 6:15 pm
We are delighted to be making our annual appearance on that antidote to Chicago traffic: Rush Hour Concerts! It really is one of the highlights of any given summer, and on July 9th we’ll be delivering Schubert’s fan-favorite “Rosamunde” quartet as well as an exuberant little piece by Kotoka Suzuki titled “Minyo.”
Written during the most turbulent time in his short life, Schubert’s “Rosamunde” is wide-ranging in its emotional scope, featuring some of his most memorable and beloved writing. By turns mysterious, moody, and mirthful, this is really one of the most gripping pieces in the historic quartet repertoire.
Originally premiered by the Arditti Quartet, “Minyo” is a celebration of Japanese folk music…through a rhythmically complex lens. We’ve fallen for this early work by Kotoka, and we know you will, too.
Join us at 5:15pm for a brief pre-concert talk we’ll be leading along with Kotoka Suzuki, and then fire up those synapses for this 30-minute respite from highway congestion!
***This concert is FREE and open to the public***
